Future Folk - Where It Began?

Hello,

A short introduction to who we are and where this all started, for any of you who may be curious about Future Folk. Now into our 4th year running these nights, Future Folk has grown immensely over this time and we are so pleased.

Everything started for us back in 2018, when Folk musician Megan Linford and Poetry / Spoken Word event curator Johnny Sackett, partnered up to fill a line up of Folk and Roots musicians at a couple of festivals over the Summer. Taking some of our favourite, local folk acts to Arundel Festival and Victorious - we got the bug! We began discussing what the night would look like if we were to take this to a venue..

The core essence of the night is to provide a platform for upcoming and local artists in a genre that is often missed across Portsmouth. To make sure these nights are open to all avenues of folk music (hence the future folk title) and to make sure artists are paid fairly and properly for the music they provide!

We put on our first gig at The Guildhall Studio and then moved over to the Wine Vaults for a monthly residency that ran all the way up till 2020! We now run nights at both the The Lens Studio, Portsmouth Guildhall and the Wine Vaults, Southsea with some super exciting (currently secret) plans ahead this year too.

Over the years we've had the absolute pleasure of booking so many incredible acts to play at our nights. We are never left disappointed by the standard of playing that comes through our doors every month. If you want to check out our Spotify playlist of past artists you can find it here - https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2zt5B36xIJJyGSsGzF0aYq?si=sNaMzr5STIK-DtxCfgzRig&pi=e-tm_ee-7CRgKF

We look forward to how 2024 is going to evolve and we hope to see you at a night of ours soon!
